LingoBinge is a language-learning tool: this marketing site, a web app, and a Chrome extension that mixes target-language words into the subtitles you read while watching streaming video. This page covers what all of them do with your data. The short version is that by default your learning history stays on your device. Subtitle text is sent to LingoBinge only to look up deterministic, precompiled subtitle assistance; the current production runtime does not send playback subtitles to model providers. Your email leaves your device only when you deliberately join a list or request an install link. We do not run advertising trackers or sell your data.

What stays on your device

Your learning history lives in your browser's local storage: the words you save (word, translation, sentence, and source), your spaced-repetition progress, your watch sessions, and your settings. If you never sign in, none of it is synced anywhere, and clearing your browser data deletes it permanently, so export to Anki regularly if you want a backup.

What gets sent to our servers

When you watch a subtitled video, in the web player or through the extension, LingoBinge may send the subtitle line to our API on Cloudflare Workers. The API checks our curated subtitle library, bundled dictionary, and precompiled caches, then returns either graded assistance or the original subtitle unchanged. Playback requests do not call Cloudflare Workers AI, Anthropic, or any other model provider. We do not log subtitle text or your watch history. To prevent abuse, the API counts each day's requests against a one-way hash of your IP address, and the raw address is never stored. Precompiled translations are cached on Cloudflare by one-way hashes, not by storing raw subtitle text in analytics.

Anonymous product events

The product sends cookieless first-party events under a random ID stored in the browser: installation, first Netflix session, first graded cue, first saved word, completed viewing day, completed review day, and an app-open diagnostic. Properties are limited to surface, platform, version, target language, attribution status, UTC day, bounded occurrence time, source, and coarse count buckets. We do not send subtitle text, show titles, URLs, mined words, email addresses, or precise viewing history in product analytics. The narrow marketing-site path data described below is not collected by the extension or web app. Marketing, extension, and web IDs remain unlinked. Raw events are retained for no longer than 13 months.

The extension is anonymous

The Chrome extension requires no account, requests no cookie access, and grades subtitles without you signing in. Account backup and cross-device sync are not enabled in the current production release. If enabled later, authentication would be handled by Clerk and synced learning data would be stored in Neon only after you choose to sign in.

Who else sees your data

  • No model provider receives playback subtitle lines. The current production runtime uses curated artifacts, dictionary alignment, and precompiled caches rather than live AI translation during playback.
  • Clerk handles authentication for the optional web-app sign-in only, and is not used by the anonymous extension.
  • Payments: none today. LingoBinge is completely free, so no payment provider receives any of your data. If a paid tier launches later, it will be sold through a merchant of record such as Gumroad (privacy policy), which would receive your name, email, and payment details to complete the purchase and handle sales tax. LingoBinge would never see your card details.
  • Resend stores and processes an email address only when you submit an email form on this website or ask the web app to tell you when a language is ready. It sends requested transactional messages and keeps each address in the specific update list the visitor chose. Resend's unsubscribe status is preserved, and LingoBinge's Neon database remains the durable record of that request.
  • Cloudflare, Neon, and Vercel host the API, database, and apps, and see the standard access logs (IP, request method, and URL) needed to serve traffic.
  • Sentry receives anonymous crash and breakage reports that contain no personal data, and only when error monitoring is enabled, so we can fix bugs.
  • No advertising, no tracking pixels, and no selling of data.

Limited use

LingoBinge's use of data received from the Chrome extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. We use the data described above only to provide and improve LingoBinge's features, and never to sell or transfer it for unrelated purposes, for advertising, or to determine creditworthiness.

This website

This marketing site uses cookieless first-party analytics to understand which pages are useful. On the marketing site only, an event can include the initial public canonical page path, a normalised external referring hostname, and bounded slug-like campaign labels from utm_source, utm_medium, and utm_campaign. We accept the initial path only when a same-origin canonical link exactly matches the page being viewed; otherwise it is recorded as unknown. Marketing actions can also carry bounded labels such as the current public marketing page, CTA placement, or destination. We do not collect a full referring URL, its query or fragment, email addresses from URLs, product URLs, or browsing and viewing history through these events. The marketing browser ID is not joined to an extension installation or web-app ID. If you submit an email form, here or in the web app, we store your email address, the list you selected, this bounded marketing attribution, and the submission time. We use it only for the requested install link, product updates, or the one message telling you a language is ready. It does not run advertising trackers or sell visitor data.

How to delete your data

On your device, clear your browser data for LingoBinge, or open your browser's developer tools and delete the echo IndexedDB database. Clearing extension or site storage removes the local random analytics ID and stops future events under it. Previously collected anonymous events age out within 13 months and cannot normally be linked back to your identity. If account sync is enabled later and you sign in, open Settings and choose "Delete account and data" to erase your synced cards, word progress, and settings, or email us and we will do it for you. If you joined a website email list, use an unsubscribe link where provided or email us to remove the address from both Resend and the waitlist database.
