Months in Korean

By Lachlan McRitchie

Updated July 5, 2026

The months in Korean are formed by adding 월 (wol, month) to a Sino-Korean number, so January is 1월 (irwol) and December is 12월 (sibiwol). There are no separate month names to memorise, just the numbers one to twelve plus 월.

Frequently asked questions

How do you say the months in Korean?
Korean months are just the Sino-Korean number plus 월 (wol). January is 1월 (irwol) and August is 8월 (parwol). June and October are slightly irregular: they are 유월 (yuwol) and 시월 (siwol), each dropping a sound.
